Carla
Kirby designed and maintains this web site. The
web site began in about 1999 as a simple 4 page site.
Later, Carla negotiated performance-based compensation.
She has added to and modified the site, writing
unique copy and using copy and photos made available
by the manufacturers of the products sold on the
site. The site is now well over 1000 pages, managed
using Dreamweaver. She searches out and makes available
all of the information a site visitor needs to make
a purchasing decision, creating graphics where none
are available. She silhouettes photos where necessary
and adds blown up or detail view photos. By subscribing
to architecture, decorating and interior design
magazines, she keeps up with current trends and
terminology in order to keep the copy and content
of the site up to date and relevant. She organizes
all of the products and links them to facilitate
add-on purchases. She tracks Web Analytics and Web
Site Statistics, adjusting the site to create consistent
site traffic and sales. Using Crazy Egg to track
where visitors are clicking and where they are not,
she edits and improves the site to make it the successful
sales tool that it is. The site uses CSS for
page layout and text styling.
Site for cottage rentals in Flatrock, near Hendersonville,
NC. The site uses a Ken Burns Slideshow with a "dissolve" transition
effect. The effect uses a javascript class for MooTools
to stream and animate the center banner. The map includes
an image map so that visitors can easily navigate to
the page for each cottage. I reorganized all of the
clients information and presented it more logically.
The client has an availability calendar from another
company which is presented seamlessly using an inline
frame (iframe) to embed the other site within this
site, making site navigation simpler. The site also
includes forms.
AgeWell Alliance
Complete package including website with some copywriting,
grapic design, image research and logo development.
We found four coordinating images that didn't cost
too much from istockphoto.com. Tri-fold brochure
has can be sealed and sent with space for an address.
The business card includes a QR Code (Quick Response
Code) that links to the website. The flyer
can be printed, distrubuted as a PDF white paper or
as an email. I gave the client a copy as a Word Template
with the graphics in the header and footer, so she
can easily create new flyers with the same look and
feel. They are all developed to be easily used with
a local printer or using VistaPrint. The logo can be
used with brand supporting colors or as black
& white.
Site for a Salon & Day Spa in Amherst, MA. I worked
closely with Shelly Dziubek on editing the existing
site and creating unique copy and content for the new
site. The site uses a Ken Burns Slideshow with zooming
and panning effects for three images in the top banner.
Effect uses a javascript class for MooTools to stream
and animate the images. The site was developed on a
very small budget by using a site I had developed for
another client that had not been used. The site worked
very well with the new content.
Site for a new writer of fiction for teens. It is
to launch three books that deal with the serious problems
and issues that face todays teens. The writer's characters
face problems with parents and family, friends and
peer pressure, drugs and alcohol, love and sex, identity
and survival.
Another great
example of a
low cost site that fills all the clients needs.
The site has information about
her books for the reader and for teachers.
This portfolio site for Beau Houde is a great example
of what can be done at a low cost. The site features
before and after photos of construction and remodeling
work. Within only a month of publishing this site,
Beau already had more new work than he was able to
commit to. New clients have found him using Google.
He also uses the site as a sales tool when meeting
with prospective clients. Beau Houde has been kept
busy with new projects he directly attributes to this
web site.
The site now uses a Ken Burns Slideshow with zooming
and panning effects that uses a javascript class for
MooTools to stream and animate the center image.
Florida Fasteners Direct
Blue-Tap Lodge Imports www.blue-tap.com
This
site makes full use of CSS for page layout, navigation
and text styling.
Carla researched products and wrote copy for this
site. She photographed some of the products, silhouetted
and optimized photos. She researched photo resources
and developed advertising campaigns and collateral
materials both digital and print.
This project included a large collateral package.
Carla continues to support this client as the company
expands into the US market.
Crocodile Smile is the House Band for Star 104.3.
The site gives band bios, sponsors, a sample play list,
and venues. Visitors can see where Crocodile Smile
is playing using Google Calendar. You Tube video is
imbedded so potential clients can see sample performances.
Forms are provided to request a quote or book Crocodile
Smile for your wedding or other event.
Carla wrote nearly all of the content. The site has
been an excellent sales tool in booking venues and
in establishing brand value for sponsors.
Jane
Nerf with Write Results developed the copy and Carla
designed the site. As usual, working on a tight deadline
and a small budget, the new site pulls it's weight.
This site is developed using CSS for layout and text
format.
Jane and Carla develop collateral material for advertising
campaigns to generate sales leads for this Screen Enclosure
company.
Working
with Jane Nerf at Write Results, Carla designed a new
site based on the look and feel of Emtex' existing
collateral material. The dynamically-generated web
site is developed in .asp. Together, Jane and Carla,
along with other subcontractors have maintained and
promoted this site through many changes. Now a subsidiary
of Pitney Bowes, Jane and Carla continue to work with
Sales and Marketing to update and promote the web site
and support tradeshows such as On Demand, Graph Expo,
Xplor, drupa, TransPromo and the Financial Communications
Forum with collateral and advertising campaigns. We
develop and revise new marketing CDs, provide email
marketing campaigns, develop banner ads, update the
events, news and home page as well as make any necessary
changes to PDFs and web site copy. Carla works closely
with other Emtex employees to create and edit forms
for events that link into databases to collect information.
This site makes use of CSS for text style and JavaScript
for navigation.
Tore's Home is an assisted living center in Brevard,
NC. We used the existing web content, which was edited
by the client. The site now looks modern and professional.
I recreated their logo from the photo of it on their
van. The site includes information about all of their
programs. The home page uses a simple Flash to show
a variety of the homes. The site uses a combination
of original photos of the facilities and stock photography.
The style sheet displays the fonts in the sizes the
visitor sets. Since site visitors are likely to be
older, the fonts are larger and easier to see.
Carla researched uses for this facility and wrote
all of the copy for this web site The copy was then
proof read by the client to confirm that they were
really able to do everything. The site includes a map
and directions, forms for use
requests.
The project also included developing collateral material
for trade shows. The site was completed and launched
in less than a month. Visitors were able to find the
site using search engines and had already submitted
event requests using the form within weeks.
I have replaced the Flash slideshow with a Ken Burns
Slideshow with zooming and panning effects that uses
a javascript clas for MooTools to stream and animate
images.
Collateral Package for Forge Valley Event Center
Nauticus Group
www.nauticusgroup.com
Nauticus
Group provides consulting, staffing, and permanent
placement services in the areas of accounting, finance,
and operations. Carla took over development of this
site in the middle of the project. Working with two
images of the ideas for the site, she developed these
concepts into completed site; migrating the existing
content and making edits. She developed all front-end
graphics and effects, including drop down menus, complex
tables, Cascading Style Sheets, JavaScript, rollovers,
forms using existing CGIs, image compression and optimization.
Copy writing for home page was done personally, then
made accurate by Nauticus Group employees. The new
web site was completed on-time and under budget. Later,
she worked with Nauticus Group employees to include
secure SSI for job postings.
Carla
worked directly for Océ, "a global leader
in digital document management and delivery technology
offering software solutions, digital printers, copiers,
plotters and scanners." She worked with a team
using Blue Martini to maintain a dynamic web site and
intranet site. Working with Jane Nerf from Write Results,
Carla updated site graphics for consistency and accuracy
and published Friday Flash, the regular in-house employee
newsletter delivered by email. Jane and Carla worked
with Sales and Marketing to support tradeshows such
as On Demand, Graph Expo, Xplor, drupe and TransPromo
with collateral and advertising campaigns. We developed
email marketing campaigns, developed banner ads, including
Flash banners, updated the events, news and home page,
PDFs and web site copy.
While
Carla worked freelance for Fusive in Boca Raton, she
was on the team that cleaned up content from all of
the state of Florida's existing web sites to give a
consistent look and feel to the new State of Florida
portal site. The team was able to complete the assignment
on a very short deadline. It was an exciting project,
culminating with Governor Jeb Bush unveiling the site
live on television in front of a more than a thousand
media professional and IT executives.
OpenClose.com
www.openclose.com
Carla
worked closely with graphic artists and ASP developers
in designing the brochure portion of a mortgage and
lenders vortal, vertical portal. Carla was responsible
for finding content sources about mortgage and lending.
She stripped content of extraneous HTML tags and developed
a clean W3C compliant CSS style sheet that was implemented
for the entire brochure portion of the site. She tweaked
the side navigation JavaScript, converted PSDs, sliced
images and assigned JavaScript behaviors. Carla developed
Templates and Library items for the entire site. She
was responsible for coordinating work provided by other
developers and merging them for alpha and beta publishing.
She came in early and stayed as late as necessary to
make deadlines. Carla worked closely with QA to assure
quality control every step of the way. She also worked
on a Flash Marketing CD, print promotional pieces,
designed banner ads and attended meetings, meetings
and more meetings.
Countrywide's "Site Builder"
Carla
worked on Countrywide's "Site Builder"
Templates, which broker customers can use to build their
own web site Carla designed a template and sample websites
that can be used within a dynamic application. By using
various style sheets and graphical elements of the same
size, web pages can be assembled using an .asp application
and be customized by the end user. Carla developed 4
designs, each in 4 color schemes, with 16 graphic choices
and 16 color and font variations.
She also worked on Countrywide's Web-based service, Countrywide
Wholesale Business Channel (CWBC). CWBC is a web site
that broker customers can use to originate loans.
Carla
worked for mortgage.com, the first company to originate
mortgages on the Internet. It was exciting to be involved
in inventing the Internet technology for mortgage business
management and loan processing. She was also involved
in the creation of web sites for mortgage brokers,
allowing the electronic ordering of mortgage insurance
and appraisals. She was in the graphic arts department
and worked closely with the developers and html coders.
She set up the site for Dreamweaver and merged the
design and code.
Sound Extreme Entertainment provides DJs and Karaoke
for private parties, weddings as well as restaurants,
clubs and bars all over Western North Carolina, South
Carolina and Tennessee. The site gives information
on weddings and other private parties, as well as forms
to request a quote or book a DJ, live band or karaoke.
Google Calendars organize the events.
Carla wrote nearly all of the content. The site has
been an excellent sales tool in booking new venues
and in establishing brand value for sponsors.
This site makes full use of CSS for page layout, navigation
and text style.
A simple site that that really works. The forms enable
wedding planners or brides-to-be to easily let Sound
Extreme plan the Wedding or Wedding reception music,
band or other entertainment. Sound
Extreme Wedding DJs, Wedding Music & Wedding
Reception Music.
We developed a collateral package for Wedding Shows.
Collateral Package for Sound Extreme Weddings
Above: Rack Cards & Tri-Fold Brochures
Below: Postcards as Tradeshow Handouts
This
site is a great example of what can be done at a low
cost. The clean graphic design using text links enhances
search engine findability and loads fast on any connection.

an animated Png with full alpha transparency layers
and an Mpg sound stream. Carla Kirby developed the
site for Write Results. Later we added the virtual
tour. Photos were taken by Carla and the client.
This
2 page site for Rene Houde is another great example
of what can be done at a very low cost. Rene Houde
had his work featured in a number of magazines. This
site gives him the opportunity to showcase these articles
as PDFs, letting prospective clients see his work.
Carla scanned the magazine articles, removed unnecessary
parts of each page, cleaned up the image and published
them as PDF on the site.
Carla
worked in the graphic art department at diamond.com.
While there she had the opportunity to work with very
experience graphic artists and greatly improved her
Photoshop skills. Carla's primary job was to clean
and silhouette photos of jewelry. The team developed
techniques to ensure consistent and accurate appearance
of all jewels and metal colors. She cleaned and optimized
scanned documents for on-line presentation. She developed
a "look and feel" for e-mail newsletters
and other email advertising. Working with the marketing
department and being included in planning meetings,
she learned a lot about marketing and advertising.
She also developed a graphical interface for the parent
company, Odimo corporate Intranet.
